The long awaited return to Paris for Bijou in 2022 is over and we have some very exciting news to share with you!
Despite the challenging difficulties that we have all faced with the Covid Pandemic, the words of Humphrey Bogart could not be more appropriate “We’ll always have Paris” (Casablanca, 1945) as Bijou plans its return to the stunning Porte de Versailles for Wine Paris 2022.
Eminence de Bijou – Pushing the boundaries
Three years in the making, Eminence de Bijou was released this spring with much anticipation. Produced from selected parcels across our best sustainably farmed vineyards in Coteaux de Béziers, Eminence is exploring the outer realms of the rosé identity. Partial oak fermentation of the grenache in our blend creates a complex and layered wine, encompassing subtle aromas of vanilla and spice. Eminence will no doubt begin to create it’s very own deserved spot at any discerning dining table.
Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose continues its astronomical growth in the UK market
2021 witnessed positive advancements for gender equality around the globe and Bijou’s tribute cuvée, named after the legend of Sophie Valrose, is certainly contributing towards raising awareness of the crucial and important role women play in the wine industry. Our flagship range pays homage to Sophie Valrose, a local hero who fought for women’s rights in the vineyards during the late 19th century.
Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose rosé ranked fifth best-selling French rosé in the UK in June 2021, experiencing an extraordinary triple digit growth in volume and value Vs the same period in 2020, (according to NielsenIQdata*). We have increased the percentage of Caladoc to our 2021 blend, which will play a crucial role in the aromatics of this years wine. The 2021 vintage is shaping up to be our best yet!
Bijou Ciel de Lilac – The lavender fields of Provence never looked so bright
Named after the characteristic lilac skies that form the brush-strokes creating the Provence skyline, Ciel de Lilac is one of Bijou’s most decorated cuvées. Much like the works of Paul Cézanne, who often looked to the Aix en Provence landscapes for inspiration, this wine shares similarities to his work ; colourful, complex and bold.
The highest quality grapes are sourced from two vineyard sites 350m above sea level, nestled into the foothills of Mont Saint Victoire. Ciel de Lilac is beautifully pale and bursting with strawberry and rose petals. With the nose expressing delicate notes of redcurrant and notable aromatics from the surrounding garrigue. Now presented in a new, elegant bottle shape, this year’s vintage is looking and tasting superbly.
Bijou’s move towards a greener future!
Sustainability will always be at the forefront of Bijou’s identity which could not be more clearly illustrated by the creation of our Bijou Le Chic 1.5L pouches. This pioneering alternative to the traditional 75cl glass bottle, offers a more environmentally friendly format to enjoy a wine. Lightweight and incredibly convenient, our pouch produces 80% less carbon footprint compared with a traditional 75cl glass bottle, according to our manufacturer Smurfit Kappa.
