Bijou extends its format range with a new 187ml bottle of rosé
Bijou has sourced the grapes for its new mini rosé from vineyards located in the foothills of the Black Mountain in the Languedoc region. The pale, 100% Grenache rosé features delicate aromas of wild strawberry and cherry blossom.
With consumers seeking to drink less but better, there has been a growing demand for high-quality smaller formats in the wine category. The canned wine category increased 125% in the year to August 2019, highlighting the demand for single serve measures.
The Bijou Horizon 187ml bottles are perfectly suited to outdoor events such as picnics or barbecues thanks to their portability and convenience. The new 187ml rosé is also ideal for spontaneous, impulsive purchases from refrigerated isles where Bijou Horizon will be chilled and ‘ready-to-go’.
The new format is also targeted at home consumption where huge amounts of wine from standard 75cl bottles is wasted due to oxidisation. Where the 187ml bottles benefit over cans is the screw cap closure that allows the wine to be resealed.
The new Bijou Horizon rosé will launch in Waitrose & Partners in April 2020.
The launch of this new 187ml rosé comes after the storming success of the Bijou Le Chic 1.5L pouches in 2019 which quickly became Waitrose’s “best seller” last summer. The pouch format boasts an 80% lower carbon footprint in comparison to glass bottles due to a significant reduction in transport emissions and economy of space.
