As June comes to an end, we look back at yet another busy month for Bijou. With temperatures rising, many wine writers across the world are searching for the best rosé wines about and Bijou has caught several eyes.
Fiona Beckett selected Bijou Le Chic rosé 1.5L pouch as the Top rosé to try in 2020. Her article in National Geographic Traveller Food on the revival of rosé wine, Beckett wrote “this wine embodies two top trends — a pale Southern French rosé in a transportable pouch (or ‘bagnum’), it’s 2020’s answer to the ‘bag in box’. Perfect for picnics and pool parties.”
The Bijou Le Chic pouches stay fresh for 30 days after opening, well suited to home consumption, while the pouch format has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to glass bottles due to a reduction in transport emissions.
In other news, Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose featured in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, where wine writer Onno Kleyn awarded the rosé an impressive 8.5/10. Kleyn wrote “Pale salmon, dry, with a bucket of berries and a few hidden raspberry candies, pleasantly balanced, no cheap Hupsakee flavors. And with the juiciness that characterizes the 2019’s.”
In the UK, we look forward to the return of restaurants, pubs and bars on the 4th of July where Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose will be launching into over 400 of Mitchell’s and Butler’s establishments including Castle Pubs and Vintage Inns sites such as The White Horse in Parsons Green.
Closer to home, with the 2020 harvest only a few months away, so far been conditions have been extremely positive. Guillaume, who head’s up Bijou’s winemaking team, explained that “so far 2020 is setting up to be an outstanding vintage. The vineyard is looking clean and green. However, everything can change over the next 2 months. Touch wood we won’t experience any natural disasters between now and harvest. We’ve had other problems to deal with this year.”
