As another month is ticked off in a topsy-turvy year for all, we look back at May and the Bijou highlights. Europe has been blessed with warm sunny weather recently, perfect for a chilled glass of rosé. Lockdown restrictions have begun to ease which has seen areas of our lives return to a certain level of normality.
In the UK, a socially distanced drink in the park has been high on many peoples agendas. As a result, our new Bijou Horizon mini rosés, perfectly suited to picnics and beach days, have got off to a flying start since launching into Waitrose & Partners. Bijou Horizon, a cute 187ml bottle, featured in The Drinks Business’ Top New Products, described as “ideal for barbecues in the garden”. Consequently, the 100% Grenache rosé quickly became a sell out online.
Marien Rodriguez, Wine Buyer for Waitrose & Partners, explained that Horizon was “the best seller of small rosés and canned rosés” – an instant success. Being well suited to the outdoors and impulsive purchase, Horizon is only expected to improve it’s performance as restrictions continue to ease.
In the Netherlands the first corks were popped on our new sparkling rosé, Ma Chérie. Top Dutch critic, Han Sjakes, was one of the first to taste the wine which passed with flying colours. In his article Sjakes wrote “A very pleasant introduction in every way. Accessible, invigoratingly refreshing and extremely charming, feminine wine with a soft, light mousse and a surprisingly versatile taste. Ripe sweet tropical fruit (melon, mango, orange), lovely flowers, fine citrus bitters, nuts, sweet spices, fruit cake slice, touch of fresh ginger, and all this will continue for a long time to come. What a treat.”
