We are delighted to announce the launch of a half bottle format rosé wine packaging, after huge demand for our flagship rosé, Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose.
According to Wine Intelligence, since 2017, purchase of half bottles of wine have almost doubled, with consumers showing more and more openness towards smaller bottles and alternative packaging. This new 37.5 cl packaging targets the increasing demand for high-quality wine in a smaller format—ideal for a moderate consumption without waste due to oxidation. Additionally, the 37.5 cl size is convenient and easily portable, allowing the consumer to enjoy fine wine at social gatherings and outdoor events.
In the past year, we saw an extraordinary success in the UK market, with sales soaring by 186% in volume year-on-year.
Edward Vellacott, Commercial Manager at Bijou, comments: “Whilst we cannot ignore the impact Covid-19 has had on the retail sector since March 2020, Bijou has significantly outgrown the rosé market which reflects the increasing demand for quality-driven rosés from the Languedoc region. This demonstrates how much the British consumer has embraced our new blend; the winemaking team have done an exceptional job. We are delighted to launch the 37.5cl bottle this spring and we have more exciting developments in the pipeline.” Our 37.5cl rosé will be available from Waitrose & Partners in 122 stores throughout the UK.
We have produced wines along the Mediterranean Coast for almost a decade and strive to provide wines that have a sense of place. In this case, the grapes are sourced in the small Coteaux de Béziers sub-region in Western Languedoc, an area that benefits from a unique micro-climate. Located minutes from the Mediterranean coast the vineyards embrace cool off-shore winds, locally known as the Cers, that provide a means of natural humidity during the hot Southern French summers. These winds also deposit an array of sea salts and minerals into the soils, enhancing the beautiful saline finish on the rosé and white wines from this region.
Sustainability has been a core part of our production for several years. Our growers in the Coteaux de Béziers achieved the HEV Level 3 certification in December 2019 (High Environmental Value) and we have also prioritized a lighter bottle (440g) to minimize the transport emissions. We also have a special range of sustainable 1.5L pouches that have a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to glass bottles thanks to packaging weight and efficiency throughout the supply chain. The pouches gained considerable popularity in Europe and Mediterranean sunspots. Our wines are now equally distributed throughout hotels, restaurant and retail.
We are continually progressing our production of quality rosé wine and exploring new techniques. Later this year, we will be launching a new age-worthy rosé, pushing the boundaries of the booming rosé category.
