In Languedoc at the turn of the century, local legend speaks of a woman who fought honourably for the rights of her fellow female workers in the vineyards.
Sophie Valrose Chardonnay
Calcareous clay and limestone soils
Our grapes are sourced from La Haute Vallée de l’Aude, a region of canyons and enchanting gorges, that reveals a terraced landscape extending from hillside vineyards to the snowcapped peaks of the Pyrenees. Our vineyards are located in sites between 400 and 450m above sea level, where grapes, exposed to inland coolness and humidity, benefit from a longer growing season to ripen slowly.
Cold maceration on the skins for 4 hours. Pressing of the grapes, cold static must settling and fermentation at 16°C with selected yeasts. Racking and ageing for 2 months on fine lees to add texture, flavour and complexity whilst retaining a crisp, refreshing, ripe fruit finish.
This Chardonnay combines volume and freshness. White flowers on the nose evolves into notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits on the palate with a mineral finish.
Elegant and well-balanced, it pairs seamlessly with any fish dish and is equally enjoyable as an aperitif.
THE LEGEND OF SOPHIE VALROSE
At the turn of the last century, women were often relegated to the back-breaking and unpleasant labour in the vineyards, while being paid significantly less than their male counterparts.
This best-selling range embodies the legend of Sophie Valrose; symbolising the fight that women undertook to be recognised for their dedication to the wine industry, which would not have flourished without their efforts.
